EmpoweRx was founded as the singular vision of one person, our founder and CEO MK Bryan. In 2015, MK was at a crossroads in her professional life. She was drawn to fulfill her lifelong desire to become a travel nurse, and while she pursued that dream, she put her decades of sales and recruiting experience to use at a local family-owned agency as a travel nurse recruiter. She quickly immersed herself in the world of contingent staff, building a report with nurses and learning about their challenges. 


It didn’t take long for her to recognize the flaws in the system. Healthcare professionals were undervalued and overworked. Many felt burnt-out and disillusioned with the system and the profession in general. As her time in the industry grew and she moved on to larger agencies, it became more and more clear to her that the current staffing paradigm was unsustainable.  

Empowering Healthcare – One Clinician at a Time”

With her family history of entrepreneurship, MK combined her deep belief in independence and innovation with her passion for empowering others to create a unique business model and a wholly new way forward for the industry. What if, instead of faceless, cumbersome, monopolistic agencies, each healthcare professional was their own owner/operator agency? They could take their career into their own hands, embrace an entrepreneurial mindset, and increase their earnings.  

This was the first iteration of EmpoweRx; an educational program that would provide the tools for healthcare professionals to unlock that freedom for themselves. A complete guide, from formation to self-marketing to staying compliant with federal regulations, along with coaching from MK herself.  

However, healthcare professionals aren’t the only ones being damaged by the status quo. Those same agencies inflate bill rates by up to forty percent, money that the healthcare professional never sees. That incredibly high cost of labor, accelerated in 2020 by the pandemic, is driving hospitals to the brink of closure, especially in rural areas, which are already underserved. It became clear to us at EmpoweRx that a larger scale solution was necessary. From this came the EmpoweRx Marketplace, a one-stop shop for both parties. A place for the healthcare professionals to be educated on the EmpoweRx process and find jobs, as well as a place for healthcare organizations to find applicants at lower rates, decreasing their labor costs. Meanwhile, the EmpoweRx Marketplace also provides a place to manage compliance, onboarding, timekeeping, and invoicing. 

This is the EmpoweRx vision today, a wholistic platform where travelers contract and build relationships directly with the healthcare organizations. A platform devoid of agency middlemen driving down costs for the healthcare organizations while increasing rates for healthcare professionals. A platform with no hidden fees that provides complete financial transparency. A platform that houses everything needed to manage a hospital from onboarding to invoicing.
